Clean windows in your home and office make for good viewing—and good feeling; it’s quite easy for many to overlook this benefit. The fact is, if you must delay the eventual deterioration of your windows, or avoid having to call for costly
contractors every so often, then you need to see to it that your windows are cleaned and maintained regularly, preferably by using these natural, streak-free solutions:
Vinegar and Water
The simplest solution would have to be water mixed with certain acids that you normally use at home, and what better ingredient to use than good ol’ vinegar? Mix equal parts of both substances into a garden spray, apply on your windows and wipe with lint-free cloth. The vinegar should be powerful enough to remove films of dirt, streaks, and smudges on the glass.
Borax and Cornstarch
Here’s another homemade natural window cleaning solution from SF Gate:
"Mix 2 tablespoons of borax in 3 cups of water. Apply the solution to the window surface and wipe clean (see References 4). After cleaning windows with borax, rinse the glass using a solution of equal parts vinegar and water to polish the surface and leave the glass streak-free."
Alcohol and Vinegar
Another twist to the simple water + vinegar solution is to add alcohol (you can use your regular rubbing alcohol). This way, not only does the vinegar provide an excellent dirt and stain remover, but the isopropyl alcohol allows the entire thing to quickly evaporate, thus preventing the sun from drying it up until it leaves streaks.
Lemon juice is an excellent alternative for vinegar in the above-mentioned solutions, and it doesn’t have to leave your window glass with a strange smell the way vinegar does. Moreover, window cleaners don’t have to be liquid – use a toothbrush to remove any scratched areas, newspapers for dusting and polishing, and a lint-free cloth for the final touches.
