How to Know When It’s Time to Call in the Professionals

It can be hard to know when a roof repair is a do-it-yourself project or if it’s time to call in a professional. Here are some scenarios where calling a professional is the smart move:

• After a severe wind, hail or thunder storm has hit your area there is a significant chance that your roof was damaged. There may only be slight damage but that can lead to bigger problems in the future if left unattended.

• If, during the winter, you experienced heaving snowfall your roof could be damaged. Snow weighing down on your roof is when a lot of wear and tear takes place. Whether winter is ending or you are winterizing your home for the next snow season, having a Northern Virginia roofing professional take a look is a wise decision.

• You may not know whether or not your home or roof has a poor design, but poorly constructed roofs can deteriorate more quickly, weaken a roof structure and/or cause poor draining. If you are unsure about the condition of your roof, obtain a professional consultation.

• If your roof has had little or no maintenance done during its life time then there is no question that you should give your roof a check-up to ensure it will keep your home protected for many years to come. Insufficient roof maintenance can lead to water damage, algae growth and a number of other problems.

It may seem as if professional roof maintenance is the more expensive alternative to fixing problems yourself, but in the long run these preventative measures will save you money. Roof maintenance and damage prevention is always cheaper than repairing previously ignored damage or doing the repairs incorrectly.

  1. In addition to that advise I would say look at your shingles closely, if you notice that you are loosing a lot of granules when it rains then that is a good sign that your roof is ready for a replacement. The granules protect the shingle from the UV rays emitted by the sun, and without them the shingle will deteriorate very quickly.
